Phew - October - fantastic - this year sure is shooting by. I just recently came back from Philadelphia from the latest of our EyeforChem conferences. To be honest we didn't do to well on the show this year as far as attendance was concerned but we had our best speaker line up ever and the conference itself ran very smoothly. It is always so exhausting and so much hard work while you are out there, but as were trying to save costs, it meant a longer stay out there (Sat night stay chops flight costs in half) - which in turn made the whole experience better because we had time to get over our jetlag - and then after the show we could have a proper blowout b4 getting on the plane back.
Speaking of blowouts - a slightly entertaining evening from what I can remember of it... Richard (friend who I work with) and I were the only ones left in Philly on Friday the 20th Sept, and so with all but pure intentions we followed the advice of some locals and went to a Jazz bar near the river, and the experience was by far the worst jazz and food I have ever experienced - except that is for the baby-back-ribs, never has pig tasted so utterly finger licking good! Not wanting this place to be the lasting impression of the Philadelphia - although it was probably appropriate - we went bar hopping, first bar was class, and trendy, but we wanted somewhere to wiggle it just a little bit, so on to a local club (that featured in all the free tourist catalogues - eek). Well it turned out to be some kind of student night. Have you ever been into one of these clubs where they have a non-alcohol area and a full-blown alcohol area - this one two levels which you had to have a band to show you were old enough to get in. 50 cent drinks until midnight - we walked in at 11ish - HA! |
